Hinged and Pivot Shower Doors in Fort Worth, TX

A hinged or pivot door is the classic frameless look: one heavy panel of glass, a few well-chosen pieces of hardware, and a wide-open entry. Davis Glass Service designs and installs swing-style shower doors for homeowners across Fort Worth and the DFW metroplex.

Hinged vs. Pivot: What Is the Difference?

Hinged Shower Doors

Hinges mount to a wall or to a fixed glass panel, and the door swings like any other door. Depending on the hinge you choose, a hinged door can swing out only or in both directions.

Pivot Shower Doors

Pivot hardware mounts at the top and bottom of the door rather than along its side edge. That suits wider doors and a more architectural look.

When a Swing Door Makes Sense

Swing doors give you the widest possible entry, and with the right layout they are the cleanest-looking option in the bathroom. The one thing to check before you commit is clearance. Measure how far the door can swing before it meets a vanity, toilet, or wall.

✓   You want the widest opening and the most glass-only look.

✓   You have room for the door to open without hitting a fixture.

✓   You are pairing a door with a fixed panel in an inline or corner layout.

✓   If clearance is tight, a sliding door usually solves it.

Details That Matter on Heavy Glass

Glass Thickness

We install 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch tempered safety glass that meets ANSI Z97.1 standards. The thicker the glass, the more solid the door feels in your hand.

Hardware Finishes

Choose from Matte Black, Brushed Nickel, Chrome, Brushed Brass, and Oil-Rubbed Bronze. Compare them on our glass and hardware page .

Support and Alignment

A heavy door puts real load on its hardware and on the wall or panel it hangs from. We check wall conditions when we measure and install with that load in mind.

FAQ

Hinged and Pivot Shower Doors FAQ

  • Can a shower door swing both ways?

Some hinge options allow a door to swing in both directions. We will walk through which hardware fits your layout at the estimate.

  • Do frameless hinged doors need a frame around the glass?

Frameless doors do not have a metal frame around the glass. The hinges carry the door, and whether your layout also needs a fixed panel depends on the opening.

  • Is a swing door a good choice for a walk-in layout?

Often, yes. A door paired with a fixed panel is a common approach. See our walk-in showers and fixed panels page for open, doorless options.
